    Pressure Treated
    Pressure treated materials are just that. They are wood materials, consisting of either spruce, pine or fir, that are treated with a preservative under pressure that drives the preservative into the wood grain. Pressure treated is green in colour when initially installed but fades to a golden hue after a year or so. treated materials last 10-20 years depending on exposures and are suceptible to rotting over time.

    -Can be stained once dried
    -Easily replaced when dmaged
    -Wears very well

    Tends to splinter when it dries

    Cedar smells wonderful. It offers a soft wood feel and rich wood grain and colour to a deck. It is very woody when installed and must be oiled almost immediately to lock in the rich wood grains and colours. Cedar materials will not rot, enzymes in the wood prevent this.

    -Rich look, feel and colour
    -Easily replaced when damaged
    -Cedar will never rot

    Risks are:
    -Cedar is more expensive than treated
    -Splinters when dry
    -Cedar is a soft wood and can show wear easily
    -Once oiled, it will require scheduled oiling
